Does the winter weather make your skin feel dryer than normal?

Many of us are out in the frigid weather for work, school and errands. Then, we come home and blast our heat to cool off. These two elements can have a direct impact on our skin.

For some, winter weather can cause a great amount of discomfort in the form of dry skin, itchiness, flaking and more. During these times, its best to change up your skincare routine a bit and show your skin some TLC. Here's a few DIY tips to combat winter dryness at home!

Stay Hydrated with Infused Water

Being hydrated is important all year round and can have a direct impact on your skin's moisture. If you want to add some flavor to your water, try one of these infused fruit combinations.

  • Lemon and Cucumber
  • Watermelon and Lime
  • Blueberry and Oranges
  • Stawberries and Cucumber
  • Coconut and Lemon
  • Add mint leaves to any of the above mixtures for a detox drink

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a great way to rid the body of dead skin. If you want to DIY a body scrub, simply combine coconut oil and brown sugar in a bowl. Then, rub the scrub in a circular motion for 30 seconds on your problem areas. Rinse with warm water afterwards. This is a great way to remove dead skin from your lips prior to applying a matte lipstick.

DIY Face Mask

Masks are great for providing extra moisture to the face. Here's a few of our favorite DIY face mask recipes.

  • Blend half of a cucumber and 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Apply for 15 minutes and rinse.
  • Combine 1/2 cup of hot, not boiling, water and 1/3 cup of oatmeal. After the water and oatmeal has settled (2-3 minutes), mix in 2 tablespoons of yogurt, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 small egg white. Apply the mask for 15 minutes and rinse.
  • Mix 1/2 ripe avocado, 1 teaspoon of plain organic yogurt, and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply for 10 minutes and rinse.
